Soprano Hana Abrams delights in telling resonant stories through song. She frequently performs as an opera chorus member in the DC region. In the 2024/25 season, she sang with Washington Concert Opera in the ensembles of Manon Lescaut and La clemenza di Tito. She returns this summer to Wolf Trap Opera as a chorus member in Carmen.
In April 2024, she joined Washington Concert Opera to perform the Sopranino in La rondine, a long-awaited premiere after the same opera's cancellation at Peabody Conservatory in 2020 due to COVID-19. She also sang as Dora the Radio Singer in staged readings of Grace Oberhofer and Ally Benko's Dear Ruth, a musical for all ages centered on the Kindertransport. In the summer season, she sang in the chorus of Wolf Trap Opera's La boheme.
Hana debuted with Washington Concert Opera in 2022 for their productions of Orphée (Berlioz) and Lakme. That same year, she sang the role of Edith with the Young Victorian Theater Company in The Pirates of Penzance and advanced as a Semifinalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition. Hana earned her master's degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at the Peabody Institute under the guidance of Ah Young Hong. With Peabody Opera Theater, she sang Charlotte Lucas in the staged premiere of Pride and Prejudice (Mechem), La Novizia in Suor Angelica, and prepared Yvette, Georgette, and the Sopranino in La rondine. For her dedicated efforts, she received the George Castelle Memorial Award in Voice. She performed with Opera Susquehanna as Genovieffa in Suor Angelica and covered Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Previously, she portrayed Stephanie in Heggie’s To Hell and Back, in which she was noted for her “strong voice soaring,” Maguelonne in Viardot’s Cendrillon, and originated Lucy in A Shell of a Troll (Sussman).
Hana thrills to collaborate with living composers and perform new works. She has worked with composer Grace Oberhofer in every iteration of Dear Ruth. Through her participation in Peabody’s Etudes curriculum, which connects composers and singers to create short operatic premieres, she originated the Narrator in Dear Father and covered the role of Younger Brother in A Madman’s Diary. In addition to the operatic roles she created, she premiered Ben Scheer’s art song, “The Poison Flower.” Additionally, she has performed original pieces by Jasper Sussman, Jun An Chew, Soyoona Kim, and Meimei Zhu.
A skilled choral singer, Hana worked with several professional choirs, both sacred and secular. In September 2025, she will perform as part of a select choir in the Washington premiere of "Journey of Faith," an evening of music honoring Saint Mother Teresa. She sang as part of the Nonnenchor of Hindemith's Sancta Susanna with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She previously performed with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus under the direction of Amy Kaiser and spent several seasons with the Bach Society of Saint Louis as a principal singer. She also held positions as a Schola Cantorum singer at the Church of St. Michael and St. George in St. Louis and a section leader at the Downtown United Presbyterian Church in Rochester, New York.
